Billy Lo: Why Join JUMP CUT?

Billy, what was your role within JUMP CUT 2014? 
My main role was to work on the translation and editing of texts within the Booklet Editorial Team. I also participated in the making of the teasers and trailers. This included selecting music and video tracks to then combine them together - quite an interesting and enjoyable challenge.  

What was your favourite thing about JUMP CUT 2014?
I would definitely say the idea behind this film festival. Unlike many festivals, JUMP CUT is especially organised by the youth, which in other words means that us youth get more opportunities to share our thoughts, ideas and feelings about the independent movies that we like. Each chosen movie tells a youth’s thoughts. 

I have realised that in this society, there aren’t many platforms that allow teens to voice out and share their opinions. This is why, to me, the idea of this festival is probably one of the things I most like about JUMP CUT.

​Any funny anecdotes? 
Yeah, it would be when we were discussing the choice of movies, where everyone were sharing their own feelings. Some teammates would make interesting comments or recreate funny sounds from the movies, making us burst into laughter. 

Which film from JUMP CUT 2014 made the greatest impact on you?
“Milk“ for sure. It reminds me how important determination is when you are fighting for something important to yourself - your rights, your dreams and your future. The messages in “Milk” inspire me - constantly echoing in my head… giving me the courage to enjoy my life and enrich it by embracing greater diversity.

Why do you think others should join JUMP CUT?
JUMP CUT is a platform full of surprises and love. It is a place where you can reveal your true feelings about movies, and the movies that have inspired you the most. You need not be talented in filming or acting, nor film directing or editing - all you need is a heart for movies, it’s about you and your own thoughts and about you wanting to share with audiences the stories of the movies. So if you like movies and if you like working with fellow youth, why hesitate? Go and join JUMP CUT!
